Overview

About Us

Since its establishment in 1973, this society has been working on problems in the lower urinary tract function. We originally called ourselves the Neurogenic Bladder Society (NBS). Neurogenic bladder, a condition caused by cerebrovascular disorders and spinal cord diseases, was the most typical form of lower urinary tract dysfunction at that time.

Since then, the incidence of other important problems has been growing. Difficulty due to an enlarged prostate, stress urinary incontinence in females, and unstable bladders are all more common now than before. At our meeting of 2002, we renamed ourselves The Japan Neurogenic Bladder Society (NBS) with the expectation of expanding the scope of our activities.

We are an interdisciplinary academic society with a current membership of 1,095 experts from various fields, including not only Urology but also Obstetrics/Gynecology, Neurology, Rehabilitation, Nursing, Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pharmacy.

Our principal activities include annual meetings, publication of a biannual journal, development of various clinica guidelines, and the introduction of the society's own research projects. In addition, International Journal named "Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS)" will be published in 2009 by the collaboration with Korean Continence Society, Taiwanese Continense Society, and the Japan Neurogenic Bladder Society.
