Message from the President

The society has undertaken clinical activities and research on lower urinary tract obstruction (of the bladder and urethra) for 35 years since it began as the Neurogenic Bladder Society in 1973.

The name was officially changed to The Japan Neurogenic Bladder Society in 2002 and our activities were expanded further.

As of October 10, 2008 the society has 1,145 full members. Its activities include holding an annual meeting and publishing a biannual academic journal, in addition being involved in epidemiological surveys, independent studies, drafting of guidelines, the Cerification Program for the Urodynamic Technician and more.

As for International projects, the society has intimate relationships with Ripublic of Korea and Taiwan, and manages the Pan-Pacific Continence Society Meeting. There are also plans to start publishing LUTS, an English-language journal, in 2009.

We must be more proactive in conducting awareness-raising activities for the general public to make people recognize that lower urinary tract conditions are treatable. Our epidemiological surveys into these conditions have shown that the most common reasons among men and women for not receiving a medical exam for these problems and "It’s not a problem," as well as others such as "It’s natural at my age," "It’s not an illness" and "It’s not so embarrassing."

Finally, I would like to close my greeting by asking for everyone’s kind cooperation in developing the society.

January 2009
President of The Japan Neurogenic Bladder Society
